I am currently in my final year of foundation Degree Digital Media at Leeds college of art, and I specialize in story-telling using a range of mediums including interactive based content. I would say I am inspired by cartoons and comics, but also the little things that most people don't notice or maybe are not bothered about, like this strange women on the train the other day, I imagined her whole life in 2 minutes! or the way a silverfish freezes up when it feels vibrations in the hope it won't be noticed! OK so I admit I have an overactive imagination, always have, but that is what I like about me and I feel this only helps me in my line of work. My strength as a digital designer definitely lies in my passion for creating a narrative and a mood, I am interested in the visual construction between image and sound and I like to animate using 2D software and my own hand drawings. I want to bring "my world" to life using digital media.....

Microsoft surface

I quite like the idea behind this, of course it's in it's early stages now but I can see this being developed further so that one day we will have touch screen walls, chairs, tables, (yes this is what this is but I mean in different variety of styles and scale) can you imagine going into macdonalds and just touching your order on one of these touch screen walls? swiping your credit card over it and then your meal arriving within minutes via a conveyor belt thingy?

just a thought anyway.

Just think how they could be utilized in the class-room/learning environment! with touch screen desks, online tutorials right at their desk and immediate access to a range of online services!

Maybe their could be a portable mini-version that users can carry around and store data on, have access to at any time? school kids could do their homework on it and bring it in, or just send it in direct via a network?

These could be used in post offices, supermarkets, retail outlets, phone shops, takeaways, the list goes on! or will everything become an online only event? will it become increasingly rare for one to actually venture out into the city and actually visit a shop and buy their own clothes? or will we do it online with an avatar built exactly to your body measurements?

capable of showing you what the outfit would look like on you if you put on a few pounds or lost a few! capable of allowing you to see the outfit on your body and face from all angles?

anyway I'm straying a bit here, but just thought I'd write a bit about the surface and how it might affect our lives in the near future, and let's not forget virtual pets and how it will change those, such as the eye pet from sony? isn't that operated using something similar to the surface?
